70 Years of Dearborn Pride

11/17/2020 Update: the birthday celebration scheduled for December 5th has been postponed due to the latest restrictions from the MI Department of Health and Human Services. We look forward to holding the event at a later date and will let you know when that date has been chosen.

On October 14, 1950 the Dearborn Historical Museum opened its doors for the first time as part of an event called the Cavalcade of Dearborn. The event was a large undertaking and all of Dearborn came together to help put on a massive parade in front of an estimated 30,000 onlookers including Michigan’s Governor G. Mennen “Soapy” Williams.

70 years later, we are asking the Dearborn Community to once again come together in support of local history, community pride, and our museum’s educational events and programs for people of all ages. We hope that you will join us in our celebration by making a donation in any amount through December 4th.

Suggested Donation Levels

Donors of $35 or more will receive an invitation to a safe and socially-distanced birthday celebration at the Museum Commandant’s Quarters on December 5th.

Donors of $70 or more in honor of the Museum’s 70th birthday will receive an invitation to the birthday celebration as well as entry into a raffle drawing of Dearborn prize packages

Donors of $300 or more will receive all of the above, plus a mention on our website, and an invitation to a VIP reception at the Museum as soon as we are able to hold one.

The Museum Guild of Dearborn is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Dearborn’s Community Museum

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to benefit the Museum’s historic buildings and support our free & low-cost events and programming for people of all ages. The Dearborn Historical Museum is composed of three buildings—the Commandant’s Quarters, McFadden-Ross House, and Richard Gardner House—that are each nearly 200 years old, and while significant progress has been made to renovate and restore the buildings in recent years, there is still much work to be done.

The Museum’s popular local events and programming include free monthly historical lectures, the annual Teddy Bear Picnic, and the Pioneer School Program, which hosts as many as 1,500 children in a given year. Your donation will help us ensure that Dearborn’s history continues to be preserved and that these events will continue being Dearborn traditions for years to come.
